Welcome to Guru Nanak Bagh
About.
Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, visited Patto Hira Singh during his extensive travels known as Udasis, where he spread his teachings of compassion, humility, and service to humanity. His core message was rooted in three key principles: ਨਾਮ ਜਪੋ (Naam Japo – meditating on God’s name), ਕਿਰਤ ਕਰੋ (Kirat Karo – earning an honest and truthful living), and ਵੰਡ ਛੱਕੋ (Vand Chhako – sharing with others, especially those in need).
To honor Guru Nanak’s teachings on environmental conservation and to embody his vision of living in harmony with nature, a Bagh (garden) was established next to Gurudwara Gurusar at Patto Hira Singh. This initiative was undertaken with technical assistance from EcoSikh, an organization dedicated to promoting ecological awareness and action inspired by Sikh values. The Bagh serves as a living tribute to Guru Nanak’s mission, with a focus on preserving the natural heritage through the planting of indigenous trees and creating a sustainable environment for future generations.
The Bagh now includes around 5,000 trees, including 21 species mentioned in the Guru Granth Sahib. Four jungle-type green patches have also been planted, and a water body is planned for the near future.

During his travels, Guru Nanak not only emphasized spiritual and ethical living but also championed the protection and preservation of natural resources, particularly water bodies and trees. He believed that nature was a reflection of the divine and that humans have a responsibility to live in harmony with the environment. This mission of environmental stewardship was an integral part of his teachings, as he often highlighted the interconnectedness of all life and the importance of caring for the Earth.
To efficiently maintain the Bagh, the Gram Panchayat passed a resolution to register a new society for its upkeep. As a result, the Shri Guru Granth Sahib Bagh Welfare Society Patto Hira Singh was established and has since opened its own account.
The society consists of 11 members, with an executive committee of 3 members. Moving forward, the society will oversee the Bagh’s maintenance.
We also welcome your valuable suggestions to enhance the beauty of the Bagh. Please visit the suggestions section on our website to share your thoughts.
